2004 Mercedes G500 Geländewagen, the Holy Grail of SUV’s!
If you are looking for the most rugged, extreme and cool SUV ever built, look no further. The Mercedes Geländewagen was originally designed to see duty on the extreme edges of the earth. You will see them working in South Africa, in the frigid north and in places almost no other vehicle would dare tread. They were first built to satisfy the German militaries desire for a light duty truck and were produced for the consumer market starting in 1979. They are hand built under contract for Mercedes Benz by Steyr-Daimler-Puch of Austria. They are unlike almost any other vehicle you will come across. For a long time they were only available in the US through grey market channels, however in 2001 Mercedes realized the demand for such a vehicle in the US. They of course gave them the host of luxury features American buyers expect of Mercedes Benz, so you have the rugged Military grade drive train coupled with fine leather, heated seats and steering wheel, navigation and the like. The Pope even had one!
So in short this vehicle has capability that 99.9% of people will never need or use, but who wouldn’t be excited about independently lockable front, center and rear differentials? The ability to traverse a 56% side incline? Sign me up! (Well other than the fact a new one has an MSRP of $106k!)
So now that you want one, why this one?
This particular G-Wagen was sold new at Mercedes Benz of Spokane and its original owner pampered the vehicle, traveling just 3,300 miles in 3 years. It was subsequently sold as a Certified Pre-Owned to the President of our local Porsche club, who is a VERY particular fellow. It comes complete with all the original books, keys, window sticker and every single service invoice from new from Mercedes Benz of Spokane. It has never been damaged in any way and is like new in every respect. It is current on all service and needs nothing but a new owner, is that you?
