Museum Quality 1975 911 Carrera with only 36k Original Miles!!!
1975 Porsche 911 Carrera. This is the no stories, no excuses real Carrera you have been looking for. Here are the particulars:
The car was originally sold at Dick Strong Porsche-Audi in Ogden Utah, an official Porsche dealer on July 25th 1975. The car was then registered in Utah, and the original inspection sticker is still in the front windshield (see pictures)! It was later registered in the state of Idaho and has not been licensed since 1995. Since that time the car has been preserved in climate controlled storage, and driven and run monthly to insure everything stays operational. It has covered just 1718 miles since 1995.It is still titled on its 1979 title from when the owner moved from Utah to Idaho. Just wait until you read the description, this car is the holy grail US Carrera !
For those of you that are familiar with these cars this may be a review, but for anyone who is shopping for a 1974-1975 US Carrera here is a little history: In 1974 and 1975 Porsche made two 911’s for the US Market, the standard 911S and the 911 Carrera. The 911 Carrera was unique in that it featured the flared rear fenders (later adopted in 1978 on the 911SC), rear spoiler (ducktail in 1974 and the classic “whaletail” in 1975), front lip spoiler (1975 only), fuchs in 15x7 front and 15x8 rear, Carrera script down the sides (deleted on this car), and a higher level of standard equipment such as power windows, front fog lights, leather seats, and more. Unfortunately due to ever tightening emissions regulations the US Carrera did not share the mechanically injected 2.7 used in the Rest of World (ROW) cars but instead used the standard issue 2.7 liter motor, rated at 152 hp in California emissions guise as this one is equipped. Total production in 1974 was 528 coupes and 246 Targa’s and 395 coupes and 174 Targa’s in 1975. To give you an idea how rare this 1975 coupe is the company produced 1590 of the much vaunted and highly collectable 1973 touring and lightweight 2.7 Carrera RS’s.
The car is currently detailed to what I would consider to be “Local Concours” standard. The paint has been clayed and hand polished using only products from Griot’s Garage (www.griotsgarage.com) and finished off with their best of show wax. The engine bay was hand detailed and not pressure washed or dressed. The carpets have never been shampooed as that ruins the pile; they have just never had a single stain! I feel confident someone could enter this car at the zone/regional level in the preservation class and come home with an award.
Exterior: Overall 9.5/10
Paint- Silver The paint on this car is simply amazing, for those of you who have not experienced the quality of paint that Porsche applied to these cars, be prepared to be amazed. Of course 23 years later, the owner’s level of care is VERY important. This car has clearly never been left out or exposed to the elements. It has no fade or oxidation whatsoever! Many of these cars have clear coats that fade or peel on the top surfaces. Bear in mind this car has spent the last 29 years in the Northwest where we don’t get the intense heat and sunlight which is very detrimental to dashes, trim, rubber pieces, not to mention paint. There are rock chips on the nose commiserate with the mileage (36k), VERY minor! There are just a few paint flaws worth noting, it would appear that the rear spoiler has been painted at some point, there is one nick deep enough to reach primer coat the size of the tip of a pencil on the drivers side rear fender, and the clear coat is just starting to to fail ever so slightly underneath the headlights (this is only visible under LED light and is not visible to the naked eye, nor does it show up in photos.
Carrera Script- These care came with script which ran across the lower section of the Car which spelled out Carrera. They could also be ordered with this script delete. This car came with it originally but it was removed immediately. A new Carrera script has been recently applied to the car, which is not in the pictures.
Body- The body on this car has to be seen to be believed, I could not even find a single door ding! I don’t know what else to say?
Body Parts- The glass is in perfect shape, still bearing all the original stickers! These include the California emissions sticker, the starting instructions above the mirror on the windshield, even the original 1975 State of Utah safety sticker! They are all perfect, not faded at all! The windshield is original with no damage. All of the body rubber is soft and beautiful. The trim is perfect on every surface. The only item that appears incorrect is the driver’s side mirror was painted body color, to be correct is should be black.
Wheels- The car is sitting on its genuine original set of 15x7 and 15x8 Fuchs Wheels that are perfect, no peeling, no pitting, no curb damage. They have never been refinished and still bear the correct wrinkle satin finish (most people polish the lips, that is NOT correct for the car). The tires are also period correct Goodyear NCT’s with plenty of tread but they should probably be replaced due to age. They are not showing any cracks, but I would guess they are upwards to 20+ years old.
A note about rust: For those of you not familiar, the Pacific Northwest in the best place to find a car in the nation. We don’t use any kind of corrosives (salt) on the roads in the winter, as we rarely see snow. We also get very little heat, humidity or intense sunlight. As a result you don’t see rust damage on our cars as you would in the East coast, Mid-West, etc and you don’t see the sun damage as you would cars from down south (i.e. cracked dashes, dried leather, sagging headliners, etc). Of course that is all somewhat moot as this car has not even been wet in over 20 years! It sits in a climate controlled garage with a cover on it. I assume most people are aware but Porsche did not introduce the fully galvanized 911 until 1976, so these cars are prone to rust. Please see the pictures, I would challenge anyone to find rust on this car, anywhere, period
Interior-
Overall the interior I would categorize as a 9.8/10. This car has never been smoked in, had kids or pets in it, nor even been ate in! I would challenge the pickiest person to scrutinize the interior and prove me wrong!
Seats: The leather is very well preserved. There is not a single rip, tear, burn, fade, stain, etc to be found on any leather surface. The driver’s seat shows just the slightest amount of wear on the bolsters, not even enough that a photo will pick it up.
Carpet: The carpet is also darn close to perfect, you will find no stains, wear marks, fading, etc. on any carpet in the car. The car has always had mats, over the carpet. I do have the period correct blue and silver cocoa mats that have been protecting the carpets since new.
Dash: The dash pad is PERFECT. No fades, cracks etc. It bears the Porsche Plaque with the original owners name on it.
Door panels and Headliner: They are all in excellent shape, no wear or sagging.
Electronics and gauges: EVERYTHING on this car works. Including all gauges, windows, sunroof, climate control, door locks, reading lights, dash lights, etc. It has a period correct AM/FM/8 track with built in CB! Try to find one of those. It even comes with the cassette tape converter and 8-track tape cleaner! I would challenge anyone to try every accessory on this car, it all works as designed.
Trunk and accessories: The trunk carpet is in like new condition, the spare and all tools are present even in the original Porsche plastic bag! I provided in depth photos in the trunk, no damage, rust, previous collision repair, etc. Just exactly the way it was when it left Germany!
Mechanical:
This car is mechanically original, engine and transmission numbers match. It has never been rebuilt or apart. The only modification from new are updated Carrera chain tensioners and the air box pop off valve. All the emissions equipment is present, although the belt has been removed to the air pump (provided). The car starts up perfectly from cold, does not smoke, pulls strongly to redline in each gear, does not make any untoward sounds, etc. The 915 transmission shifts perfectly (makes you wonder why so many people complain how the 915 shifts, maybe they haven’t driven a pristine one!). It tracks straight and true, no vibrations, strange noises, etc. It truly is a nice car. Even while in storage it has had regular fluid changes. I would assume that the future owner of this car will use it sparingly, being as though it has covered very few miles in recent years if you plan on using it regularly please don’t forget it is a 33 year old car.
One final rant and rave about some people’s idea of “Mint condition”. To me mint condition means as absolutely close to how the car was the day it rolled off the showroom floor. I can’t tell you how many times I have seen or looked at “perfect” cars that simply weren’t, they are what I might describe as very nice or in great shape. In my mind what separates out the good from the great? It’s all in the details. As an example, take the interior of this car. If you look at all the switchgear and buttons, you won’t find a single one where the labels are worn off from use. You won’t find a single threshold cover that is scratched, stained, etc. The leather on the steering wheel cover is soft, in its correct color of true black, with no scratches from rings and a nervous driver. All the pieces fit perfectly with no missing screws, or plastic covers. The cracks and crevices are as clean and everywhere else, the headliner hangs proudly and crisply with no signs of sag whatsoever, the leather is a consistent color, no faded on the tops of the seatbacks. I could go on and on, but the true car purists know what I am talking about and understand you can NEVER make an edgy car a pure and perfect example.
I have tried to describe this car as completely as I possible can. I won’t go so far as to say that is it 100% perfect, but I have never seen a nicer one. It is very low miles for its age. It is totally original (with exception of the following: Carrera tensioners, air box pop off valve, painted drivers mirror). Everything works the way it did in 1975. I have been watching these cars for quite some time and have yet to see one that was as well kept or documented. Please contact me with any questions you might have.
Please remember that while this vehicle has only 36,012 original miles it is 33 years old and as such some items might require maintenance and repair in the future due to age and not necessarily mileage. It is current on all required services.
